Cloudways Staging Management biedt een afgeschermde omgeving waarin je nieuwe code, plugins en thema's kunt testen zonder je live WordPress-site te raken. Toen ik dezelfde server koos en een staging-applicatie aanmaakte, kwam er in de applicatielijst nog een kopie met het label Staging bij. Ook bij cPanel-hosting kun je een WordPress-stagingsite maken als Softaculous is geïnstalleerd.
Als je een stagingsite maakt, krijg je een kopie van je live site. Ben je klaar, dan zet je met één knop alleen de gewijzigde delen of alles over naar de live site. Andersom kun je de huidige inhoud van de live site naar staging halen, zodat beide sites gelijk lopen voordat je begint.

1️⃣ 4 voordelen van Cloudways Staging Management
De live site die bezoekers echt openen, laat je ongemoeid, en je probeert wijzigingen aan ontwerp en functies eerst uit op een exact gekopieerde oefensite (staging).
1. Met een wachtwoord beveiligde site
Gewone bezoekers en zoekmachines horen niet op de oefensite te komen, dus standaard houdt een inlogvenster (wachtwoord) toegang van buitenaf tegen. Je kunt het naar behoefte aan- en uitzetten.
2. Met één klik doorgevoerd
Wil je wijzigingen van de oefensite naar de echte website overzetten, dan hoef je niets stuk voor stuk te kopiëren en te plakken: één klik op een knop is genoeg.
3. Gedetailleerde controle (kiezen wat je overzet)
Je kunt alles overzetten wat je op de oefensite hebt gedaan, of alleen de webbestanden of alleen de database kiezen en op de echte site toepassen.
4. Staging met SSL (beveiligde verbinding)
Ook op de oefensite is al een beveiligingscertificaat (https) geïnstalleerd, zodat je zonder fouten kunt testen onder dezelfde beveiligingsvoorwaarden als de live omgeving.
2️⃣ Cloudways Staging Management gebruiken
Ga in het Cloudways-beheerpaneel naar [My Applications] › je applicatie › [Staging Management].
Klik je op [Launch Staging Application], dan opent een venster waarin je de server voor de staging-applicatie kiest.
Nadat ik een server had gekozen en op [Continue] had geklikt, opende de serverlijst en verscheen op de serverkaart [Creating staging application].
Open je het tabblad [Applications], dan staat de staging-app met Staging- voor de oorspronkelijke naam bovenaan de lijst.
Klik je op [Launch Staging Application], dan opent een venster waarin je de server voor de staging-applicatie kiest.

🔣 De back-upplugin UpdraftPlus gebruiken
Voor een eenvoudige klus, zoals één plugin testen, kun je de plugin UpdraftPlus gebruiken, die WordPress-thema's, plugins en de database in één keer terugzet. Je maakt een back-upbestand voordat je een plugin installeert of instellingen wijzigt, en zet het terug als de test klaar is.
Terugzetten met commando's op de server of via het beheerpaneel van je host is niet nodig: met alleen de muis lukt het prima.
Ja. Op een testserver koos ik de huidige server (same server), en in het venster voor de serverkeuze verscheen een melding dat een app met een andere PHP-versie naar een kleinere server wordt gekloond. Volgens de melding wordt een server van 4GB of meer aangeraden als je apps meerdere PHP-versies gebruiken. Na een klik op [Continue] werd de staging-applicatie gewoon aangemaakt.
Klik in de lijst [Applications] in de rij van de staging-applicatie op ⋮ › [Delete Application] en typ DELETE in het bevestigingsvenster. Dat venster waarschuwt dat een applicatie zonder back-up na het verwijderen niet terug te halen is. Op de testserver verdween ze 3–4 minuten na het verwijderen uit de lijst.
