When playing Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2), you may need to know where certain animals are to get their pelts or carcasses. This page shows the locations of common animals in RDR2.

Besides the reference maps, some sections include maps and videos of spots where I hunted myself, for example the beaver, the moose, and the Angus ox.

Farm north of Rhodes

After hunting the ox, you can find ‘Claude's letter to Annette’. It contains spoilers, so I recommend looking around only after the hunt. If you want to know what happens next, keep watching the video.

Angus ox location at Emerald Ranch

After midnight, in the small hours, there were Angus oxen west of Emerald Ranch_{(2-star, so I didn't hunt them.)} If you go to the Emerald Ranch barn, there are quite a few 3-star Florida Cracker cows. One 3-star Angus ox was among them, and I hunted it for its pelt.

On the map, the moose is even labeled in the dotted areas, but I spent 2–3 hours going around all 4 of them and it never showed up, so I gave up. Other animals are almost always in the dotted areas; the moose was the only one that really would not appear.

On my way to Lake Owanjila^{(just above the dam)} to hunt 3-star beavers, I happened to spot a moose being chased by wolves. The moose was only 2 stars, but I got the moose antler I needed.

Besides regular deer, the spots where elk and pronghorn gather follow the rivers that run out of creeks. The actual range may be wider than the marked areas.

There is also a ranch near Emerald Ranch that raises only goats, but this time you can check the location of a ranch raising alpine goats below the stable between Van Horn Trading Post and Annesburg, on the map and on YouTube.

Muskrats do appear in the areas marked on the map, but opossums and other rats show up with them, so getting a 3-star one can be harder than you'd expect.

Parrots and boobies don't appear on the mainland. Both species are exclusive to Guarma in Chapter 5, so on the map above they're marked only on the inset map at the top left. The parakeet is a mainland species, and you can find it in the swamps around Saint Denis.

Of the Arabian horse events, honestly the black Arabian was much easier to get than the white one.

Firearms such as the Mauser pistol and shotguns, which I use more than the revolver in RDR2, only unlock in Chapter 4 or 5, so you get them late. This shows how to apply a Nexus mod so you can use those weapons from the start.

How to Set Up Weapon Unlocks

Camp item requests in RDR2 come up when you talk to gang members in camp, or when they come to you first and ask for a specific item. Fulfilling them raises your Honor and earns you small rewards, and completing 5 or more unlocks a Rockstar achievement.

In RDR2 you ride from town to town, hunting and taking on events along the way, but riding for a long time gets tiring.

Fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2 usually splits into trains, stagecoaches, and camp travel (from Arthur's quarters at the gang camp, or while camping). In short, RDR2 fast travel falls into 3 main types.

Each time you complete RDR2 challenges in order, you earn the set Health, Stamina, and Dead Eye experience for that challenge plus a little money, and upgraded gear unlocks at set stages for purchase from the Trapper.
